JEC Energy came out to see how well the solar streetlights are working for us. There are a couple dark spots which are likely because of trees hanging down.
JEC Energy wants to use Lone Oak as a flagship city and is working with the City to provide solar LED streetlights in some critical areas along with some security cameras which are coming soon.
The Solar LED streetlights have a 10-year warranty and are a self-contained unit that can be replaced by city personnel. The electric lights require maintenance by Texas New Mexico Power. If there is an issue, we must contact TNMP and get on their schedule to have the work done. This can take some time to affect repairs. And the Solar lights are not a load on the electrical grid which is fully loaded in the summer months.
The solar lights also shine down more than around like the electric lights. That means if you are one of the people with a streetlight outside your bedroom window, the LED will shine more down that in your window. But as you can see in the video, there is plenty of light down the street. If anyone paid attention to before and after the LEDs were installed, the new lights are closer together and provide more light and more security in the street.
The city does plan to install more LEDs around town, but we are looking for input as to what should be the next areas to focus on. Contact city hall if you have any suggestions or comments.
